Brett Favre was born in Gulfport, Mississippi on October 10, 1969. Favre grew up in the bayou of Mississippi hunting and fishing with his three brothers. The Favre boys all participated in athletics. He attended Hancock North Central where his father was the high school’s football coach. Favre’s tough-nosed father pushed him to focus on football. Favre didn’t attract many college scouts when it was time for college recruitment. He ended up going to the University of Southern Mississippi because they were the only school to offer him a scholarship.

In 1991, Brett Favre was chosen as the Atlanta Falcon’s 33rd overall pick. The Falcons struggled with fitting Favre into their team dynamics. When the Green Bay Packers offered them a first round pick for their back-up quarterback, the Falcons jumped at the deal and traded Favre.

Brett Favre began playing for the Packers in 1992. When their starting quarterback Don Majkowski injured himself, Favre stepped up to fill in. He has started every single Packers game until January 20, 2008. While playing for the Packers Favre established himself as one of the league’s top quarterbacks. He led the Packers to victory at Superbowl XXXI. He also became the first NFL player to win three consecutive MVP awards.

In 2008 Favre considered retiring from the game but  was traded to the New York Jets. The following year, Favre was released from his contract with the Jets and began playing with the Minnesota Vikings. After a disappointing season in 2011, Favre returned to Mississippi and retired from professional football.

Once back in Mississippi Favre got a job as an assistant football coach at Oak Grove High School. In 2012, he was asked to join the St. Louis Rams but declined the offer. He admitted that he suffers from memory loss. Favre contributed this ailment to injuries he sustained while playing professional football.
