Arian Isa Foster was born on August 24, 1986 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His wife is a performer and they have a daughter. Foster’s parents are Carl Foster, a former wide receiver for the University of New Mexico, and Bernadette Sizemore, an administrator at the school. After moving to San Diego to live with his father, after his parent’s divorce, Foster played at Mission Bay Senior High putting together and impressive senior year and earning a scholarship to Tennessee.
At Tennessee he played four years, three as a starter and had mixed fortunes. After waiting his turn behind more seasoned running backs, he starred in his sophomore and junior campaigns and was projected to go as an early draft pick if he entered the 2008 NFL Draft. However, under the advice of his coach, he came back for senior year. Unfortunately, injuries and decreased production saw his draft status plummet and he went unselected in the 2009 Draft. He was signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent before being waved and eventually put on the practice squad. He steadily worked his way into the squad, first on special teams and then in spot duty. He scored his first touchdown in December 2009 and made his first start a month later, rushing for over 100 yards.
From an inauspicious start, Foster flourished in 2010 winning the starting position and eventually leading the NFL in rushing, also making the Pro Bowl. He would make the Pro Bowl again in 2011 despite struggling through injuries. Before the 2012 season, the Texans reportedly re-signed Foster to a 5- year deal worth $43.5 million and he continues to be among the best running backs in the league. A philosophy major in college, Foster has a variety of philanthropic pursuits and his an admitted vegan (although he still eats meat on occasion).
