Alonzo Mourning has an estimated net worth of $90 million

Alonzo Mourning is a retired NBA player with an estimated net worth of $90 million. Mourning played most of his 15-year NBA career with the Miami Heat. He is 6’10″ and weighs 260 pounds. Alonzo Harding Mourning, Jr. was born on February 8, 1970 in Chesapeake, Virginia. Mourning’s childhood began to take a negative turn at the age of 10 when his parents divorced and his home situation deteriorated to the point where he was placed in foster care, where he lived until he went to college. His foster family did keep him on the straight and narrow and allowed him to realize his immense athletic potential as he averaged 25 points, 15 rebounds and 12 block shots a game his senior year at Indian River High School in Virginia.

After Mourning was named the Player of the Year by USA Today, Parade, Gatorade and Naismith in his senior year in 1988, he decided to attend Georgetown University. Under the tutelage of famed coach John Thomson, Mourning flourished leading the nation in blocked shots in his freshman campaign and being named an All-American in his last year at college. His success in college led to him being selected with the second overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft – behind Shaquille O’Neal – by the Charlotte Hornets. His rookie campaign was exceptional as he averaged 21 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.47 blocks a game, finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting behind only O’Neal.

Mourning played three highly successful years at Charlotte before he was traded to the Miami Heat in 1996 where he signed a 7-year $105 million deal. Mourning played 7 seasons with the Heat initially before he was diagnosed with a kidney disease that curtailed his playing time before he signed with the New Jersey Nets to a four year deal, although he would retire soon afterward because of kidney complications. After getting a kidney transplant in 2003, he returned to the NBA the next year with the Nets but was not used much. Eventually, he found his way back to Miami in 2005 and agreed to back up O’Neal on a team that was a title contender. Mourning would win his only NBA title in 2006 and played a key role as a defensive stopper in the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks. He retired after the 2007-2008 year. Mourning is married to Tracy Mourning and the couple has three children. He currently works for the Miami Heat organization.
