Whoopi Goldberg has an estimated net worth of $45 million

Whoopi Goldberg is an American actress and talk show host with an estimated net worth of $45 million. Goldberg won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of the character “Mae Brown” in the romantic film Ghost (1990). Goldberg is 5’5 and weighs 173 pounds. Caryn Elaine Johnson was born on November 13, 1955 in New York City, New York. Her father, a clergyman, left her mother, a nurse and teacher, to raise her alone. Johnson says she adopted her stage name, Whoopi Goldberg, as a combination of her nickname “Whoopi”, from whoopee cushion (she had stage flatulence issues), and her mother’s belief that having a Jewish name might further her career. Her early theater work took place in communist East Germany between 1979 and 1981 before she returned to the U.S. and trained under iconic German acting coach Uta Hagen.

Goldberg would make her film debut in 1981 in the avant-garde flick Citizen: I’m Not Losing My Mind, I’m Giving It Away and would go on to produce the one-woman show, The Spook Show, in 1983. The show garnered acclaim and was taken to Broadway by renowned director Mike Nichols. Its success caught the attention of another iconic director, Steven Spielberg, who would cast Goldberg as the lead in The Color Purple. A commercial and critical success, the movie won Goldberg an Oscar nomination and established her as force in Hollywood. Her newfound celebrity led to a string of moderately successful comedies in the late 1980s. She would cap the decade squarely in the public eye as part of the Comic Relief charity concert triumvirate along with Robin Williams and Billy Crystal.

Goldberg started the 1990s off with a bang, starring in the commercial blockbuster Ghost and becoming the first black actress to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She also starred in CBS’s comedy Bagdad Café, the soap opera satire Soapdish and another smash hit, Sister Act. She continued her string of successes in the middle of the decade with Made in America, Sister Act 2 and when she became the first African-American to host the Academy Awards show in 1994. Although she would continue to act in movies, she diversified her reach serving as executive producer and star of television game show Hollywood Squares  from 1998 to 2002. In 2007 she joined the popular television talk show The View, where her often controversial opinions continue to keep her in the limelight. Goldberg has been married three times and has one daughter.
