Tom Hanks has an estimated net worth of $350 million dollars
Tom Hanks is an American actor, producer and director with an estimated net worth of $350 million. He is best known for his role in the film Forrest Gump (1994). Tom Hanks is six feet tall and his weight is unknown due to frequent fluctuation. Thomas Jeffrey “Tom” Hanks was born on July 9, 1956 in Concord, California. His father was a cook and his mother a hospital workers. His parents divorced early on, splitting the family up as three children, including Hanks, went with their father and the youngest with their mother. His father remarried and would have several more children, with whom Hanks would live throughout the 1960s in Northern California. Hanks admits he was a bit of an oddball in high school although he did participate in several plays while in high school. His real penchant for drama, however, took off in college when he studied theater. He learned the ins and outs of production and performed himself – including garnering awards – as part of the Great Lakes Theater Festival in Cleveland.
Hanks, however, was destined for bigger things and he relocated to New York City where he began to get more acting work and eventually landed an agent in 1979. A year later he was cast in the lead role of an ABC pilot, Bosom Buddies, in which he starred as an advertising exec forced to dress like a woman so he could live in an all-girl hotel along with a male friend. The show ran for two years and led to a guest role on Happy Days, which would in turn lead director Ron Howard (who was an actor on the television show) to cast Hanks in the lead of the film Splash (1984). The movie was a hit and, along with Bachelor Party which was released the same year, established Hanks as a rising talent in Hollywood. Hanks avoided being typecast in his next role in Nothing in Common, alongside legend Jackie Gleason, but went back to comedy for The Money Pit and Dragnet. Although already a star, he would become a worldwide celebrity after his next hit, Big, in 1988.
Hanks steadily became among the most successful and powerful actors in the world starring in a succession of mega hits like A League of Their Own (1992) and Sleepless in Seattle (1993). He would begin to pocket major awards, including consecutive Best Actor Oscar’s for Philadelphia (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994). Since joining Hollywood royalty his roles have been varied, from Saving Private Ryan (1998), to The Green Mile (1999) to Castaway (2000), but almost always highly successful. His string of endless successse has tailed off in the new century although he continues to be one of the most sought after actors and his presence generally guarantees a project’s success. In total, Hanks’ movies have grossed over $4.2 billion in the U.S. and $8.5 billion worldwide. Hanks was married to actress Samantha Lewes from 1978 to 1987, with which he had two children. He married Rita Wilson in 1988 and they also have two children.
