He was raised in Bedford and Manchester, New Hampshire and attended Northwestern University where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

While at Northwestern he was a member of the sketch comedy group Mee-Ow. He continued his sketch comedy career at ImprovOlympic with the group Preponderate and then with Boom Chicago.

In 2001 he joined he cast of Saturday Night Live and became writing supervisor. Five years later, in 2006, he was promoted to head writer alongside Tina Fey and Andrew Steele. In 2004, he auditioned to be co-anchor of “Weekend Update” but lost to Amy Poehler. After Fey’s departure from the show Meyers became co-anchor with Poehler.

On May 12, 2013 Meyers announced he would be leaving Saturday Night Live to succeed Jimmy Fallon as host of Late Night.
