Eddie Murphy has an estimated net worth of $80 million dollars

Eddie Murphy is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and director with an estimated net worth of $80 million. Murphy has starred in films such as Coming to America (1988) , Vampire in Brooklyn (1995) , The Nutty Professor (1996), and Dreamgirls (2006). He is 5’9 and weighs 170 pounds. Edward Regan Murphy was born on April 3, 1961 in Brooklyn, New York. Murphy’s father was a transit police officer and comedian, while his mother was a telephone operator. His father died and his mother was sick when Murphy and his brother, Charlie,  were still very young, forcing the siblings to spend a year in foster care – a time when Murphy says he developed his sense of humor. After his mother recovered she remarried and they went to live with their step-father in Roosevelt, New York. By 15, Murphy was writing and acting out his own comedy routines.

Starting out as a stand-up comic in the 1970s and 1980s, Murphy was heavily influenced by Bill Cosby and Richard Pryor. He landed what would be a critical job for him in 1980 as an actor on star-making Saturday Night Live. His impersonations and characters on the show made him an instant star and would pave the way for his first comedy albums and films to attain major successes. Those successes included Delirious (1982) and Raw (1987), which soon became iconic stand-up performances. His international fame, however, would skyrocket thanks to his first three films: 48 Hrs. (1982), Trading Places (1983) and Beverly Hills Cop (1984). The movies established Murphy as a certifiable Hollywood star and virtually unmatched commercial success.  After signing on to do Beverly Hills Cop II in 1987 – which was also highly successful – his string of box office hits would continue with Coming to America (1988) and Boomerang (1992).

Although his successes would continue well into the 1990s, Murphy would expand his range and appeal to include more family friendly roles late in the decade and into the new century. The Nutty Professor was a huge hit in 1996 and spawned a sequel as did the Shrek and Dr. Doolittle franchises. As well as his comedy albums, Murphy  produced several music albums with a modicum of success. His 1985 single, “Party All the Time” reached No. 2 on the US charts. He was nominated for an Academy Award in the Supporting Actor category for Dreamgirls in 2006. Murphy married Nicole Mitchell in 1993 and had five children with her before their divorce in 2006. He also had a child with Tamara Hood in 1990 and another with former Spice Girl Melanie Brown in 2007. He has been in a relationship with Tracey Edmonds since 2008.
