David Hyde Pierce is an American actor and comedian with an estimated net worth of $30 million. He is 5’9″ and weighs 140 pounds. David Hyde Pierce was born on April 3, 1959 in Saratoga Springs, New York. He is the youngest of four children born to George and Laura Maries Pierce. His father was an aspiring actor and his mother was an insurance agent. As a child Pierce played the organ at the local Bethesda Episcopal Church. He began acting in high school and earned recognition as the Best Dramatic Arts student.
Pierce loves music and went on to study classical piano at Yale University. However he soon grew bored of the tedious practice needed to become a successful concert pianist. He changed his course of study and graduated in 1981 with a double major in English and Theatre Arts.
After college Pierce moved to New York City. He worked various jobs while pursuing his acting career and studying at the Michael Howard Studios. He made his Broadway debut in Christopher Durang’s Beyond Therapy in 1982.
David Hyde Pierce made his big television debut in the early 1990s on Norman Lear’s political comedy The Powers That Be. Pierce played a congressman. Despite positive reviews from critics, the series had a short run on air.
Partly due to his close resemblance to Kelsey Grammer, Pierce was cast as his younger brother, Dr. Niles Crane on the television series Fraiser. During the show’s run he won four Emmy awards for his performance as Dr. Niles Crane.
At the 61st Tony Awards David Hyde Pierce won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his work in the Broadway production of Curtains.
